Juniper SSL VPN (Personal VPN)

Summary

The Security Team provides a web-based SSL VPN platform for user remote access. This service enables users to securely access restricted UW Medicine resources through a standard web browser. A UW Medicine AMC Windows domain account is required to utilize the services.

UW Medicine Information Security Policy requires encrypted and secure access from remote locations to confidential UW Medicine resources. Devices used for remote access must meet the information security requirements as outlined in the Minimum Workstation and Server Information Security Standard.

Q: How do I access the SSL VPN?
A: Enter one of the following URL's in your browser:
https://sslvpn.medical.washington.edu (Basic Mode).
https://sslvpn.medical.washington.edu/advanced-windows (Advanced Mode).

Q: What is the difference between Basic and Advanced-Windows?
A: Basic mode gives you a web page where you can browse shares, upload and download files, and make terminal server connections. Advanced-Windows mode gives you all that Basic does, and adds to that a program in your task manager that makes many other pieces of client software work over the SSL VPN tunnel - such as Outlook email and mapped drives.

Q: I have a form that I filled out for Remote Access, what do I do with it?
A: SIT doesn't require a form anymore, but the workstation support team might find the details useful for their own processes.

Q: After I login to the SSL VPN, when I try to make a Remote Desktop Connection, I get the error: "the local policy of the system does not permit interactive login." What is this error and how do you fix this?
A: If you get that error, it's because you are not authorized by the remote computer to login remotely. For access to a specific AMC workstation, send an email to the Help Desk at mcsos@u.washington.edu.
