Desktop Protection from IBM Internet Security Systems (ISS) is a local firewall option for Windows 2000 and XP desktops and laptops. Locally, it provides basic firewalling and intrusion prevention, stopping both inbound and outbound attacks. Centrally, it provides consistent policy management and intrusion detection.
The local ISS Desktop Agent comes with a standard "Lockdown" policy to secure your computer while trusting those systems necessary to work well within UW Medicine. From this safe starting point, you have complete control over your policies and can customize them to your needs. We are currently supporting the following two versions of the Desktop Agent:
You may have heard the agent called "Black Ice". This was the first version of the agent deployed by IT Services. We are phasing out the use of this name to reduce confusion as IBM has publicly announced end of support for this version.
Please note that ISS Desktop Protection is not licensed for use on servers or home computers.
