Security Consulting Services

The IT Services Security Team offers consulting services in several areas. Consulting services are in place to help UW Medicine workforce members be successful in the implementation of all aspects of their security controls. Please see the specific category below that best coincides with the help that you need.

It is recommended that you read the UW Medicine Security Policies before requesting these services. Many questions are answered in the policies and all requestors should have knowledge of the policies before consulting with the Security Team.

Network Architecture

The Security Team can provide support for full network design or design of singular networking components. A goal of the security program is to have all systems including their security controls self maintained at the host level. Through the process of consulting on network design the Security Team will also help educate staff for future design needs.

Security Design

New system vulnerabilities are being found every day. The Security Team realizes it is very difficult to stay on top of every vulnerability that may be out there for your system. The Security Team has put together some consulting services that they feel will help system owners and operators combat these vulnerabilities. Below are some of the security design services that they offer.

Vulnerability Assessments

A vulnerability assessment is the systematic examination of an information system or product to determine the adequacy of security measures. The goal is to identify security deficiencies, provide data from which to predict the effectiveness of proposed security measures, and confirm the adequacy of such measures after implementation.

Risk Management

Risk management has been identified as one of the most important areas of need for all system owners. A properly performed Risk Assessment as part of a Risk Management program will provide an institution with invaluable information about its systems. System owners will find out where vulnerabilities exist and ,when done over multiple annual cycles, will find if newly implemented security controls are having a positive, negative, or neutral affect on their system. The security team offers the following consultation services for Risk Management.

Security Education

The Security Education Program offers consulting services as part of it's content areas. The consulting services are geared to reach those areas of UW Medicine that may not have the opportunity to participate in any of the other currently offered content areas.
