Sponsored UW NetID Service 2.0 Project

Goals:
Develop a new sponsored UW NetID service that handles identity management, affiliation management, and issuance of UW NetID credentials for individuals without a "native" UW affiliation but that have a legitimate need to access UW and UW Medicine systems.

Summary:
This is a joint project between UW Medicine and UW Technology. UW Technology maintains the central UW Person Registry and the UW NetID system that store user identities and authentication credentials for many UW and UW Medicine applications. UW Medicine needs to provide access to applications for many individuals that are not part of the UW or UW Medicine (e.g., external students, visiting researchers, referring providers). This need has been met by a non-standard, manual process mediated by the UW Medicine UAA team. The Sponsored UW Net ID project will replace this model with a sponsorship model in which designated individuals within work groups will sponsor external users that will work in their areas. Once the sponsorship setup process has been completed, the external individuals will be able to sign up for their own UW NetIDs via self-service.
