UW Medicine Information Security Program

The goal of the Information Security Program is to guide and support UW Medicine efforts to achieve a high standard of information security. UW Medicine systems handle vast amounts of sensitive data, support life-critical systems and decision making, and provide crucial information for ongoing operations and attainment of strategic goals. The protection of these systems and data from theft, abuse, corruption, loss, and failure is extremely important for the continuing existence of UW Medicine.

Information security is everyone's responsibility. It is the consequence of good design, good management practices, and good behavior. Security must be incorporated into all our business practices and procedures. It isn't a separate activity to be delegated to a security team.

The Information Security Program is staffed by the IT Services Security Infrastructure Team (SIT). SIT has several areas of activity that support the development and operation of the program. Key development areas include:

SIT also provides critical operational services to UW Medicine, in both security and networking disciplines. Examples of these services include:

You can read more about SIT projects, services, and other activities in each of these areas throughout the pages of this web site. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions or comments.
